Time for a Q&A on ACOSS survey results

With the release of the ACOSS community sector survey, we hope tonight’s appearance of ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie on ABC TV’s Q&A will prompt lots of questions about chronic underfunding of vital services – including the 73 per cent of community legal centres that report they are unable to meet demand for quality, free legal help in local communities.

The demand pressures and shortfall in government funding have been highlighted in a Community Law Australia media release, and featured on ABC TV News last night. The survey also comes as a cost-benefit analysis shows community legal centres deliver $18 benefit for every dollar invested.

To support the Community Law Australia campaign, we encourage you to engage with tonight’s episode of Q&A by posting your question at the program website, or by tweeting @qanda during the show (from 9.35pm AEST tonight) using the #qanda hashtag. You might like to throw in some other hashtags if you have room, including our #CommunityLawAus, and #auspol.

Let’s hope this important survey gets a run!

  1. Oh the irony of it all!!! As a newly admitted lawyer, desperate to find a job – so much legal work needs to be done to help people – yet, I can’t get a job. All I want is a job, so I can try to start helping people. Something wrong – too many lawyers being admitted v. not enough jobs – and yet a 73% unmet need for good lawyers/legal advice!!!!!
This just does not make any sense at all.
